§ Legal — Terms of Use

The short version.

A plain‑English summary of what you're agreeing to when you use MOT & Tax Tracker.

If you read nothing else

The bits worth knowing.

  • Apple's EULA applies — the same one that covers every iPhone app you install.
  • The data isn't ours. MOT and tax dates come from DVLA / DVSA. Treat the app as a helpful nudge, not the source of truth.
  • Subscriptions are managed by Apple, not us. Cancel and refund through your Apple ID.
  • We can't renew anything for you. Only GOV.UK can do that. The app links you out — you tap through.

The licence

Your use of MOT & Tax Tracker is covered by Apple's standard Licensed Application End User Licence Agreement (the EULA). That's the agreement Apple presents to you whenever you install an app from the App Store. Nothing on this page replaces it — these terms sit alongside it and clarify a few app‑specific things.

Vehicle data

The app fetches MOT and Vehicle Tax information from the official UK government services run by DVSA (MOT history) and DVLA (Vehicle Enquiry). We pass that data through to your device without modifying it.

That data can be wrong, stale or temporarily unavailable for reasons outside our control. You're still responsible for ensuring your vehicle is taxed and has a valid MOT. The app is a reminder tool, not a legal record. Always verify against GOV.UK before relying on a date for anything that matters.

What the app doesn't do

The app does not, and cannot, renew your road tax or MOT itself. Here's what we actually do:

What happens after you tap through is between you and GOV.UK / your test centre.

Subscriptions and payments

The app is a paid download (currently £1.99) which includes two vehicles. The optional Unlimited Vehicles tier (currently £4.99 per year) lifts that cap.

All payments are processed by Apple through your Apple ID. We never see your card details. Cancellations, refunds and billing questions are handled by Apple through Settings → [your name] → Subscriptions on your device, or via reportaproblem.apple.com.

Subscriptions auto‑renew through Apple unless you turn that off at least 24 hours before the renewal date, in line with Apple's standard subscription terms.

Acceptable use

Don't try to break the app, abuse the lookup endpoint, or use the data to harass people. We rate‑limit lookups to keep the service usable for everyone; if you hit the limit, slow down.

"As is"

The app is provided as is, without warranty of any kind. We do our best to keep it accurate, available and bug‑free, but we can't promise it'll work perfectly in every situation, on every device, every time.

To the extent permitted by law, we're not liable for any loss arising from inaccurate vehicle data, missed deadlines, or the app being unavailable. Use it as a helpful second pair of eyes — not as your only defence against a fine.

Changes

We may update these terms from time to time. The date at the top of the page is the version you're agreeing to. Continuing to use the app after a change counts as acceptance of the new terms.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales.
